The effectiveness of workplace health promotion programs using break time and environmental support on tobacco cessation among female call-center employees

Abstract

|
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the quitting smoking and stress management by break-time health promotion program during work and environmental support.
Methods: 301 subjects were assessed for job stress, degree of emotional labor and knowledge of smoking by self-administered questionnaires. And integrated smoking cessation programs which were fitting to characteristics of call center company including environment support.
Results: Among 301 workers there were 48 current smokers. Workers who had lower score of knowledge for hazard of smoking. And scores of emotional labor and job stress were high but not significant difference between smokers and non smokers. After intervention, the smoking rate was decreased from 48 to 30. It was statistically significant difference.
Conclusions: Emotional labor women workers were vulnerable to smoking. Therefore integrated smoking cessation program including environmental support should be developed and implemented in telemarketing company.
